About Us

Academic & Commercial Training began trading in January 2008.

Since then, it has attracted some very significant clients.

Local government, schools, the University of Bath, Numatic International, Oscar Mayer, Ministry of Cake, Honeywell Aerospace and Bodycote Heat Treatments, Brecknell WIllis, to name a few, use A & C’s wide range of training services on a regular basis.

We are really proud that, as a result of attending our courses, several people have sought to further their skills and some have become Voluntary Community First Responders. Others have made the first steps towards becoming Paramedics or choosing related careers. We aim to motivate and empower people!

We are also delighted to be able to offer free training and events First Aid cover to charities whom we seek out and approach. Ferne Animal Sanctuary were the first to benefit by this scheme and  St Margaret’s Hospice is another charity we actively support. Charities are most welcome to contact us for help.

Its success is as a result of teamwork, ethics and support from a wide range of individuals, some of whom are listed below:

  • Yvonne Attridge-Hall [Director of Training]

[BA Cert Ed /CIEH Advanced Health and Safety/CIEH Advanced Food Safety]

Yvonne has combined her life-long interest in First Aid related topics with her professional training as a teacher of English, History and Mercantile Law, to create a company which can offer a wide range of services.

She was a member of a voluntary aid society for 38 years and is now a Voluntary Community First Responder with the NHS Ambulance Service, so her training has been consistent and up to date.

After leaving school, she trained as a teacher and taught at Durban Boys’ High School (South Africa), and at Kloof High School as a supply teacher.

She left to raise her children [always a priority to her] but started a private teaching practice. She gained her first taste of teaching people for whom English is not their first language, when there was a flood of Taiwanese students into the local schools.

A firm believer that teaching should be fun if it is to be memorable, she is known for her lively and unorthodox training style which leaves many people wondering what she’s on! She clearly loves her job!

  • Gary Attridge

Already qualified as a Voluntary Community First Responder, Gary attended a First Aid at Work course with  A & C.

Impressed by his medical knowledge and great interpersonal skills (to say nothing of his sense of humour) Yvonne invited him to train to be an assessor, when he could get time off from his full time job.

It wasn’t long, however, before his years of experience in banking, finance and manufacturing proved to be invaluable too. He soon sported the title of “business advisor” when he supported her at networking events.

He has since gained his CIEH Professional Trainer’s Certificate through the company.

He was also kind enough to let Yvonne attach his surname to hers when she discovered that it wasn’t easy to find herself on Google with her old name!

  • Gavin Hall

Despite a busy life as an airline pilot and dad, Gavin has been instrumental in setting up much of the internet infrastructure  for the company and keeps a regular check on everything, for those for whom the internet is still a black hole!

  • Michael Hall

Michael, in the midst of preparing for his second Masters Degree,  nonetheless helped with many of the initial admin tasks, set up spreadsheets and made numerous essential cups of tea! Having been immersed in First Aid his whole life and having endured hours as a pretend casualty, it was a logical step for him to become an assessor.

Now as a  Chartered Accountant, he has lots of words of wisdom to impart!

  • Dave Sibley

A Voluntary Community First Responder, Dave assists with assessing. He also involves himself with the informal update training at his place of work. He is a highly respected member of his work’s First Aid team

  • Rebecca O’Mahony

Welcome to Becca whom I have worked with for years. She brings a wealth of professionalism to the company and is a trusted trainer.

  • Nick Rymell Is our new assessor helps in other ways too.
  • David Wood has just joined us and will be working in the Devon Area. Welcome Dave
  • Thanks too to the many others we cannot, for “political” reasons, mention here!!
